Hot Chocolate and a Book – How to Win Friends and Influence People

Hot Chocolate and a Book – How to Win Friends and Influence People

This book can be read again and again. And again. You hear people that are familiar with top motivational and success genre books saying, “Oh I have read that already!” From my perspective, we can stand to pick it up every so often and read some of the book’s basic principles.

*Please note in this the true story the gender, name and some aspects of the story may have been changed to protect the person’s involved.

Once, I saw a particularly rude manager removed and replaced quickly due to her inability to work with everyone and speak kindly to those that were subordinate to her. No one likes to be criticized, and even constructive criticism depending on how it is delivered can be not-so-constructive. At best, it can make a person weary and be very cautious when they around you for fear of failure. And this can create more fear and failure. At worst, criticism if not sandwiched between encouragement can be devastating to a person’s self-esteem.

As a working songwriter and artist, I have worked with numerous types of people and have learned so much.  Caring about the needs of others has not always been the case for me, but as I have learned to let down my guard and fears, I have found that getting to know others resolves the need to be afraid. Everyone has a personality and deserves to be heard. Those who tend to think the world revolves around them and are less caring of other’s views and opinions tend to (in my experience) fail or they do not stick around very long. The cream always floats to the top.

One of the main understandings I have from this book on how to deal with people is to let go of the need to be right. Arguing with people rarely solves anything, especially if the person has dug in and and is willing to argue with you over their beliefs. If this is the case, you will never win anyway.

Another area that has helped me, following reading this book is the concept of honor. These days I rarely hear the word. When you let a person be who they are, you honor them. You do not have to agree, but you can accept their diversity and their humanity. God loves us All.

Hot Chocolate and a Book – The Power of Positive Thinking

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]For me one of the most simple, yet profound books that has touched my heart has been The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale. I first ‘found’ and read the classic book when I was at a low point separated from my husband (we have since remarried) and unemployed. My weight had crept up and i was living with my Aunt and Uncle trying to find a job, any job.

Sitting here, reliving a bit of that pain and uncertainty…well. God is Good. I believe He found me where I was that day.

At the time, the library and brick and mortar bookstores were my solace. (I miss having a Barnes and Noble every five miles.) There, I would sit for hours sending out my resume and reading anything I could to encourage myself. It was a horrible winter that year in Maryland and feeling incredibly alone and like a big loser, I stumbled upon this book, which I read completely in a night. I continued to read and re-read the book! It has been a treasure to my life.

The principles are simple –have an simple trust in our Lord and believe He can and will help you. So simple, yet no other book has quite touched me the way Mr. Peale’s book has.

Today, we get a lot of flack from pop culture and the media about mere ‘positive thinking’. Yet in this case the positive thinking is wholly placing your faith in the goodness of Jesus Christ. Simply believe that things will go well with you and the Lord is your advocate.  To admit that to you and say I have struggled with this concept as I question everything, I would sit for hours considering Mr. Peale’s ‘theories.’ Yet, I had no option, I was in a dark place and had to get out. The pain I felt during that time was almost unbearable, not to mention embarrassing.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_raw_js]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[/vc_raw_js][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Thoughts and Love – Multivitamins

Thoughts and Love – Multivitamins

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It came to me several weeks ago that not everyone believes some of the basics that I have taken for granted.  One of these things is the importance of health and considering taking multiple vitamins to enhance your health.  As I am getting back into the swing with a busy, active baby, I have been working to improve my nutrition lifestyle. In prayer as I am writing this for guidance, I was surprised to hear from various acquaintances and friends that do not regularly take any sort of vitamins, not even vitamin C.

Having a Mom who has been a naturopathic/herbalist for over 30 years, she instilled in us (okay, made us) take our chewable vitamins all throughout our youth. Mommy (yes, I call her Mommy) could not afford to have us stay at home sick from school.  My brother can attest that we were rarely sick, Praise God. Was it because of the vitamins? I believe yes.

During my pregnancy, and being *ahem a bit oh-el-dee-ee-are, I tried various pre-natal vitamins to help maintain my energy ALONG with working on my nutrition in my foods.

Here are some wonderful discoveries I made during that time.  I am NOT an expert, just a person who like you wants to get honest input that could help. In this world of information, who knows what is real and what is not. Be mindful of the vitamins you take, as some use synthetic forms of the vitamin that can affect you negatively.

I am praying that these ideas are of help to you, in Jesus name.  – Yorrelle

Here are my likes right now (not using any affiliations)

  • Living Fuel – this Christian-based company has a wonderful story and their products are premium
  • Moringa – natures natural vitamin, my Mommy told me of this YEARS ago and I did not remember until I was pregnant. It bumped up my energy and helped alot. I took this along with my prenatals.
  • Prenatals – New Chapter, MyKind,  any MegaFood products (my favorite one!!)
  • Barley Juice Powder – Calcium. Calcium, Calcium!!
  • Cod Liver Oil – I just ordered a bottle for Baby and I.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Like you, there is greatness inside of me that has been wanting to get out.  We all have it. How do I know this? Before we are created by a Creator that is Awesome and it has been referenced that we are made in their image.

My name is Yorrelle. A country girl, born and raised in Augusta, Ga. I am a sweats kinda person who rarely wears makeup and prefers to walk barefoot.

I enjoy Disney movies and happily ever after movies and I root for the underdog. I enjoy reading self-help books and studying the Bible and going to thrift stores. I love happy music, friendly people, and good coffee with lots of cream and (yes) brown sugar. I enjoy one-on-one conversations and avoid crowds and huge parties, although I love singing on stage. I love being on stage, but can you believe I used to have horrible stage fright?? My husband calls me Cookie Monster because I like cookies (ALOT).

Friends, thank you for listening to and purchasing my music. God bless.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_raw_js]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[/vc_raw_js][/vc_column][/vc_row]
